On the 31st August 2008, Nike will host The Human Race 10K, a series of 10km road races in 25 cities around the world, including London. A million runners will take part worldwide! Including two little Running Bugs from Abenefit2u, Dianne and Kathryn!

Bug
The great aspect to this race is each runner is allowed to invite two spectators to the pre-race concert at Wembley Stadium.
The race starts at Wembley Station at 7.00pm.
Doors to Wembley Stadium will open at 5.00pm.
At 5.45pm the first live performance will start.
At 7.10pm the first runners will start, in timed waves. All waves will leave at 30 minute intervals after this. Abenefit2u have registered for the second wave.

The exclusive pre-race sets are from Moby, Pendulum and Carl Craig.
Abenefit2u can bring up to two guests per runner to join them and watch the performance and then cheer us on once we start…
Spectator tickets are £10 each. We have purchased four of these (the maximum allowed).
Kathryn’s friends, Tash and Fi, have already leapt online to our Just Giving Page and snapped up her two tickets.
My lovely friends and family have also leapt on line and placed a number of donations, thank you Kaline, Mum & Dad, Andy and Richard, but are not able to attend, and so I still have two tickets up for grabs.

Abenefit2u have achieved £85 in sponsorship so far for this race, we are now just £15 away from this race target of £100 which is being donated to the WWF, World Wildlife Fund.
Abenefi2u have pre-paid for the concert tickets, so if you would like to come to the concert, and cheer us around the 10k course afterwards, we would much prefer you make a £10 donation on our Just Giving Page.

The more money to charity the better!

10% of our registration fee was automatically donated to the Nike+ Human Race fund which is shared amongst the three official charities: The UN Refugee agency, The Lance Armstrong Foundation and the WWF, World Wildlife Fund.

The WWF is such a lovely cause and Abenefit2u have chosen to raise extra funds on their behalf.

Some more information about the WWF, World Wildlife Fund…

WWF, the global conservation organization, is one of the worlds largest and most respected independent conservation organisations. WWF has a global network active in more than 100 countries with almost 5 million supporters. As the largest multinational conservation organization in the world, WWF has been protecting the future of nature for more than 45 years.

WWF’s works to address global threats to people and nature, including climate change. Owing to a rapid increase in greenhouse gas emissions, the Earth’s temperature is rising dangerously fast, increasing violent storms, warming seas and melting ice. WWF is pressing for cuts in greenhouse gas emissions, and we help threatened species and habitats to adapt to the effects of climate change. In the UK, we are campaigning to ensure a stronger Climate Change Bill, which commits us to emissions reductions of 80% by 2050.

Thank you in advance for any donation, no matter what size, and we look forward to definitely having four fans this time cheering us on, or more likely just cheering at the great music…

Our Environmental Website

By Kathryn Rees

At Abenefit2u we are always keen to find new ways to make our business more environmentally friendly. We are therefore delighted that the company that hosts our website, 1&1 Webhosting, also have the same principles and have a green energy policy in place.

Green badge

As a result this means our website, www.abenefit2u.com, is powered by renewable energy. On a bigger scale this means than 1&1 are helping to save 30,000 tons of CO2 produced each year.

Here is some information taken from the 1&1 Webhosting website which details their green policy:

We are proud to be the first large web host who relies solely on renewable energy. 1&1 now utilise wind, water and solar power in accordance with the Renewable Energy Certification System (RECS).

In our European data centres, we currently run some 40,000 servers which consume between 50 and 60 GWh per year. Hence, by switching to environmentally friendly energy we can significantly contribute to environmental protection.

In addition to 1&1’s data centres, two large office buildings (in Karlsruhe, Germany) with 1,300 employees are supplied with renewable energy.

Within 1&1’s data centres in Germany, 1&1 hosts data from customers in the UK, Germany, France and Spain as well as from the email providers GMX and WEB.DE, whose customers will now use ‘Green mailboxes’.

1&1 use energy efficiently
“We not only desire clean energy, but we also want to use as little energy as possible,” says Achim Weiss. “Thus, for example, for many years we have been using highly efficient power supplies with less than 20 per cent heat loss and omit any unnecessary components within our servers. As soon as the outside temperature falls below 10 degrees, we cool our data centre using open-air coolers and that works without energy-eating compressors”. Software too, can help save electrical power – Based on a Linux platform, 1&1 has developed its own operating system that enables the data of up to 10,000 customers fit on one server and thus saves valuable resources.

Abenefit2u are proud to be working with a company that is so committed to utilising renewable energy.
